With Landscaping Chips which are 80% leaves / 20% finely chopped soft hardwoods--I always have as much composting into the soil as I have growing out of it. (composting requires full contact with MA Earth--containers are a NO-NO). It was formerly a toxic waste dump...How I pulled out 1 cubic yard of broken glass without cutting my bare hands once--I do not know. Its in my working class landlord's back yard (the best landlord I've ever rented from-- the man happens to be black -- and is kind of a PhD agriculturalist).
