---------------------------
In a
country of cheaper by the million agriculture--I find I always pay MORE
when I go to the farmers' market.
As we've been depleting, compacting and poisoning our soils for
centuries--we have all too often been destroying our URBAN LANDSCAPES as
well--which CAN and MUST be very much alive.
One of the worst things we do is mulch 1000's and 1000's of square miles
with poisoned, dead WOOD chips.
Once this mulch has been killed--it will be dead forever--and NEVER
compost into the topsoil. According to PhD African American
farmers--this stuff CANNOT be (easily or quickly) resurrected.
Any living landscape must adhere to the rules of ma nature--we must have
as much high-grade
organic material composting into the topsoil as we have growing out of
it--or the landscape is NOT alive--nor does it look alive--
and very soon WE won't be.
|
|
|
In
maintaining these LIVING Landscapes--ALL of these corporations need to
believe--
as do the rest of us--that any small piece of land--must have an
infinitely higher value than any buildings we build.
Any man-managed landscape will never be as good as a natural
landscape--and it is NEVER DONE--IT IS ALWAYS A WORK IN PROGRESS.
This might seem hard to believe (Mr. Bloomberg will tell you (Green
Cities USA Programs))--but you know all these (landscaped) center
islands
at shopping mall parking lots--you notice birds and squirrels, etc.
won't go NEAR them. If you do things right--these critters will be ALL
OVER THE PLACE. DON'T RUN THEM OVER.
COMMON GROUND:
CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE / THE LANDLORD PROTECTION AGENCY---CAN THE RENT BE
REDUCED BY 2/3 SO
TENANTS & NEIGHBORS CAN AFFORD TO DO BICYCLE TRANSPORTATION--AND NOT RUN
THEM OVER ?
Properly
mulched--trees will grow even by a 10 factor in 10 years--other than
that--they'll grow like a Burger King plastic house plant. The trick
is--in diametric opposition to to inflation-chasing college text
books--you gotta power wash (it takes an hour--never
let it go dry) the sand on drugs OFF the damned thing before you plant
it--01 sep ... NOT 04 jul.
EMPLOYEES AT ALL THESE PLACES NEED TO BE GIVEN THE ASSIGNMENT OF
MAINTAINING THESE LANDSCAPES--1/2 TO 1 FULL DAY PER WEEK. (if I managed
one of them I would take
20% of my salary to it--and spend entire weekend live-ing up the
landscape--in my muddy as hell suit and tie).
MY
COMPANY WOULD DO BEST TO WORK WITH ONE OF YOUR WORKERS--IN THIS
RESURRECTION.
|
|
|
In hiring
landscapers--all of these
corporations need to specify exactly
what they want. All too often many
customers want more landscaping than they are willing to pay for--and
the landscapers--like many workers--
have to run around like chickens
with their heads cut off--keeping
up with inflation.
Personally--where I rent--I've found it
is possible to turn a dump into an urban wildlife habitat. I will not
charge YOU this kind of money--BUT--this practice 20' x 20' landscape in
my back yard--cost me--in bits and pieces--a year of my life--I would
like to sell something like this for $25,000. I am told--in this cheaper
by the million competitive market--I couldn't get $2500 for materials /
$0 for labor.
I'm one
of the better tree climbers on
earth--and in the most recent decades--mainly trimming and pruning--this
results in the
80/20
nitrogen/carbon
chopped leaves/chopped wood
ratio required for the best compostability. (electric utilities and
local landlords used to pride themselves on their environmentalism).
I have a long list of references who will testify that I give my
customers the work that they pay for.
The thing about keeping your landscape alive forever--YOU and YOUR
workers must learn about--and WORK at taking care of your
Landscapes--forever.
If you do not manage your own
landscape very carefully forevermore
---in
this existing market--if we do not learn to value the land--a lot more
than the buildings--we will lose it. (Green Cities q.v. Mr. Bloomberg)
|
|
If you
were to hire--any landscaper--for a k-mart price--the very NEXT
YEAR--exactly what these even college-educated landscapers--
999/1000--will have to do--in this market economy (or get divorced like
my African American landlord--for doing the work of 2 men for 60 years)
....
They will rake away ALL of your LIVING,
COMPOSTING MULCH--throw it in your
dumpster--and replace it with poison, dead wood chips--all over again.
Many corporations need to become
involved in a National Green Cities
Program (many cities are already involved) --We all have a lot to learn
from each other.
It is impossible that some of you
are not already serious gardeners--
landscapers at home.
As corporations become involved in every every kind of Green Cities
Program--you will want to print out--forevermore--brochures for your
customers--info about your every day involvement in taking care of your
living land. They will see YOUR workers taking good care --at least one
day per week (Better 2 hours/ day--Every worker gets a shift).
The
workers saying that the corporation knows what its doing--and the
corporate officers saying that the workers know what they are doing--is
a mistake that's been going on since 1970. Changing this blind leading
the blind is the responsibility of every American.

I wanted to
ask if you would like
an Estimate for resurrecting your
landscape in Pittsfield, MA--
at East and 4th Streets.

(poisoned wood chips will go into
your dumpster) (The biodynamic insects and worms will stay out of the
building if the crushed stone is placed all the way around the building)
Labor: $700
Composted Topsoil: $400 (5 cu. yd.)
(Holiday Farm--Dicken Crane)
½ Composted 80/20 $500
un-composted 80/20 (free)
